My experience as a state approved Oregon Behavior Professional with 20 years in the field of developmental disabilities enables me to offer effective consulting services based in a bio-psycho-social approach. I consult with families and teams supporting adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities to decrease stress behaviors by fostering understanding, reducing stress, and maximizing enjoyment in life.
Each of us is naturally creative, resourceful, and whole. We have great capacity to heal, learn, and grow together. People with developmental disabilities deserve the same opportunities for personal growth as anyone else. I bring families and teams together to advocate for the person they support as well as empower them to build self-advocacy skills.
Each person is the expert in their own lives seconded by those who love and support them. I have helped many people having similar experiences, and I have a hefty toolbox full of supports that I have used successfully, but knowing someone's diagnosis or other label doesn't mean I know them. We are each unique and deserve an individualized approach. When you hire me, we work as a team.
Scientists now understand that what some call misbehavior, is really stress behavior. Whether it's caused by an unrealistic demand on lagging cognitive skills, over-stimulation from sensory input, fear of uncertainty, or frustration over communication, the stress that produces challenging behavior can be explored and addressed with compassion and creativity.
Many families see their autistic family member or loved one with disabilities being isolated or marginalized by a service system and society that hasn't yet learned the value of inclusion for all of us. I can provide strategies to help you think outside the box, educate others, and break barriers, bringing more access and a sense of belonging to your loved one.
A parent's love and commitment are for life. In order to sustain the energy it takes to strive for the best for your son or daughter, especially when they are struggling with challenging behavior, you need to fill your own cup. As a parent of a child with disabilities and a longtime family advocate, I understand that balance is not a state of being to be achieved. Rather, we make choices every day to either move toward or away from balance. I help parents balance their needs with the needs of their adult child so that both can thrive.
Hi Alexis!
I really enjoyed our time together last week. Thank you! I’ve always done my best for (my son) and I’ve been searching for answers as to how to do better. By suggesting how he may be feeling, he stops and agrees, then moves on to something else. It doesn’t turn into a power struggle. It was precisely what we needed!
Teresa
You are amazing. It’s like you had a camera in my house. You captured exactly what’s going on.

Alexis: I wanted to take the time to thank you for all the work you did on (my son’s) behalf. The plan is easy to understand and I think to implement. It gives a good picture of who he is and what motivates him. It’s pretty nice when his employment personnel say they "learned some things". I feel like (my son) is doing better. The short communication with his job coach after work has made an immediate impact.

Hi Alexis. Thank you SO much for sharing this information. They seem like fabulous strategies! I will look forward to continuing this work with [our client] and her mom.

Your plans are truly excellent and should be an example of how to write a user-friendly, easy-to-read, and thorough plan that is also truly a pleasure to read. The easy manner of your plans, I know, makes it easier for the people who are being written about, and for their teams. Thanks, Alexis!
